Reading 'A sound of thunder', I was questioning myself, will time machine be invented and work successfully? I had this question for long time but I didn't have chance to ask others' opinion. Do you think it is possible?
I wish moving into different time will be cool, because i can go back and take tests again, or see the dinosaurs, like Eckels, and have great experience. But I don't think it is possible. Because, first, if we go back to time, like in 1700s with machine, we can change the future. Even though we be careful like the company, I am sure there will be some impact. Second, if we go back to time, that means time machine was already invented in that time period. Since we could go back to past with our machine, machine will stay in 1700s until we leave. Lastly, let's imagine in future, time machine is invented. But thing is that if time machine is invented in future, why can't we see any of people from future? Since there is time machine in future, I'm sure people in future want to travel back in time like us. But how can't we see any of them? Even if people from future disguise themselves, I think they will have some sort of different things from us like atmosphere, clothes or anything!
Until now, there is no definite way of traveling time but scientists are studying for it. So what do you guys think?

I do believe that someday time traveling will be possible, long time ago people thought that traveling to space is impossible to achieve. I think that because of achievements like that humanity will keep trying to achieve things that will improve our lives. Who knows maybe people of the future have already created a time machine, this might be insane but it is possible. Maybe the people of the future came to our present. I hope that someday time traveling will be possible because sometimes I feel like going back to the good times and escape the bad times and just live my life without having any limit in time. That's another reason why time machine should be invented-so that we will have unlimited amount of time to spend!

Personally, I believe that it's totally possible. Just that we don't have the technology yet. I have to say I agree with all of your arguments. But what I also believe in is the existence of parallel worlds.
Parallel worlds are worlds that are almost exactly the same to other worlds but just in a very small way. Usually, they are created every time we make a decision such as whether I should have pizza or chicken for dinner. Every choice you make creates an alternative which leads to another world where if you chose the other option, then the world would be like this.
So if we were to apply this concept with time, then maybe everything we do within time, whether its the past or the future, another parallel world would be created where the effects of our actions are present while the original world would be untouched. You would only create a new world that you live in where the changes are in effect. So you would live in a new world where everything has changed but there are other worlds for everyone else. So maybe even if you think you have changed time, it's more of like you just created a new world just for you.

Oooh parallel worlds.
I don't know about travelling back in time, but to solve one of the issues with travelling back (time paradoxes) is alternate/parallel universes. Take the grandfather paradox: You travel back in time to kill your grandfather. How is that possible? One solution is that time does not allow you to change it. What's done is done and there is nothing you can do about it. Somehow, you will fail. Always.
Another solution is parallel worlds: You come from universe A, and you travel to universe B to kill the grandfather. But he's not your grandfather! He's the grandfather of your alternate self. It would be great if we could travel back in time.

I believe time machines will be invented in future, but I don't think they will be used often. Technically, time machine is used to see the past and future. But it has serious problems that if we changed something in past, there will be a tremendous effect in future. And if we go to future and see how the world looks like, this can affect our lifestyles by making us want to do something that is only possible in future. And it can result in acting like a person from future who actually lives in past.

I think everything is possible but can time machine be invented ? That i think it just gets 0,000000...1% because i just see the time machine in the movie and in each movie they have their own way to make time machine and not one looks like another. Making it is so hard and why can they have a billion ways to invent it Maybe it can be invented but i think the government is going to take care carefully of it if it has owner legally. But, i almost think that the government will take it because if the Time machine has its owner. The owner can be the richest and most strong, intelligent,... in the world because the owner can change the past such as winning lottery, knowing everything in exam before having it,.... I think it can be successful.

Anything is possible, so i think machine will be invented someday in future. While inventing it people would already know that it will affect the future, but nobody ever created machine yet, so how do we know if we even can change the future? It's just an opinion but i still believe that we can change and mess up the future if we ever gonna create the time travel machine.

I also think that the invention of the time machine can be possible, but if it is made then like in the "Sound of Thunder", there can be an awful change if the machine is used in the wrong way. Sure, you can go see the past if you please, but with a time machine you might even make the slightest change to the world.

I think it will be possible when they has time machine but nobody create yet. When they have time machine I think it is important change the future right it will be horrible change the future in wrong way. When they have time machine we can see how world look like. I think it will be cool when they have time machine^^

I think time traveling is possible. Because people thought that many thing was impossible in the past but it became possible. In fact scientists have already found a way to travel back in time that is by creating a shortcut through space and time and that can be created by bending time and space to meet at one point called a wormhole. But the problem is that the energy needed to do that is equal to an exploding star or to form a black hole which is impossible to create on earth. So till that energy is created time traveling will stay impossible.

I mean, I'm just too pessimistic about this topic. But anyways, I do not believe time traveling is possible. Though technology is developing and evolving in an impressive speed, I think there's a limit on what science can or cannot do. Traveling through time is such a chaotic matter and brings huge consequences. Even if people invent a time machine, they would not take advantage of it and consider it as untouchable. Honestly, yes, technology is great. I don't know whether time traveling can really work out but for maybe in way later in the future.

I strongly agree with brandon. Going up to the space, it include inventing a spaceship and having it to fly up to the sky at a extreme speed. However travelling time... Hmm i really wonder how scientists will create such thing. Traveling time is so risky. After reading sound of thunder, even killing a butterfly affects on how "time" is spelt and the president election. All those things happen in a book. It is very impossible to happen in the reality.

I also don't think that human will be able to create a time machine. Traveling through time might cause disadvantages to our future. We might get lost in time, traveling through time might also effect our future, people might misuse it, and many more. For me, when talking about "traveling back through time" is just like talking about "magic spells" which we know that it doesn't exist in this world. But who knows, human might be cleaver enough to travel back through time in the future but by then I don't think that I will still be alive to see it.

news.discovery.com/space/time-travel-impossible-photon-110724.htmlThat article explains how scientists have proven that time travel is impossible, since, to put it in simpler terms, nothing can travel faster than light. I guess that that discovery is for the best, since time travel technology is such can upset the balance of the universe easily, especially if it's in the wrong hands, unless the parallel universes really exist. Also, I see no benefit to time travel apart from being able to see the what future technology or dinosaurs are like. And even then, the future that we see might not be a pretty one, causing panic in the people. I guess my point is that we should just live in the present and not worry too much about past mistakes and future uncertainty.

No. I don't expect to see a time machine any time soon. Time is a part of nature that doesn't stop. By that, I mean nobody can mess with time. If a typhoon comes and hits a city, the city will be destroyed, but time will still go on. As humans, we can't try to mess with time. Especially speed it up nor turn it back. Also, like Nadira pointed out above, nothing can travel faster than light. And the thing about string theory? I don't believe in it.
