I think most people chose the camp 14 book cuz they didn't wanna read a trilogy. Now that ms Boyd changed then number of books we have to read, I wonder how many people changed their minds or changed their minds but couldn't follow brought because they already bought camp 14. Anyways, I was talking to ms Boyd and she told me the book was really disturbing and that got me really interested especially it all actually happened. For those of u have started reading it,how is it? For those who are reading the 1st of the trilogy, how is that going? Which one do u suggest?

I'm still reading my book (Escape From Camp 14) and the story is so depressing that you might want to have your tissue box with you before actually start reading it. SPOILER ALERT: Couple of chapters in the book talk about Shin (main character)'s daily and harsh childhood life in Camp 14 since he was born in there. It's basically like reading a book called Night by Elie Wiesel. This book talks about Elie Wiesel's harsh life in Holocaust in Germany. The similarities between these two books are that both main characters survived the camp and people in the camp lived harsh lives by being forced to do dangerous labors, beaten to death, executed, etc. The main difference is that Elie Wiesel didn't born in the camp but Shin did. So, I would really recommend this book (Escape From Camp 14) for book project because it's very interesting and you will have a lot of things to write about it.

I just finished the book and I started annotating few days ago. I did this because annotating while reading interrupts my reading pace and makes me less focused on the book. I like how the book tries to describe all the difficulties Shin faced, but I don't like the way it moves from one perspective to another. It is confusing, and also annoying sometimes. For example, when I was reading about Shin's mother, suddenly the writer started talking about the time when he first met Shin. I was really willing to find out more about Shin's life, but then that part just distracted me.

I'm also still reading the book, and I think that the details are explained really well. Also, I realized how cruel the rules in Camp 14 is. I thought that Shin was very brave to escape from the Camp 14. I hope I get to finish reading during the spring break

I finished reading Escape from Camp 14 as well. I will call EC14 in short. I read this for 3 weeks, everyday 1 hour. It took me long time since I am a slow reader and annotation was keep bothering me. I wanted to know what was happening after the chapter, but I couldn't go on since I had to write and annotate things I learned on the paper. It really annoyed me and took me long time to read. But this really helped me to remember my analysis and connections I made throughout the book.
Anyway, I finished the book as well. I liked it but it was very vivid to read. Well, Harden Blaine is a good writer, making me imagine and visualize all the scenes. Those scenes are really....vivid and there are lots of descriptions. But I really liked it since it is about North Korea, which is right above us. I never paid attention to North Korea and when people were freaking out because they thought we are going to have war, I was really calm and believed there could be no war as long asI live, which is really weird belief. But through this book, I got to understand better about North Korea's culture and government and what is going on while I am typing this. I also got scared of North Korea. I am so happy that I am South Korean and live in happy family and going to International school.

I just finished reading camp 14 and yes it is a bit disturbing. How the guards have no sympathy for the prisoners and how the prisoners have seem to have lost their sense of humanity really upset me. But then again, it was interesting to see that this is actually possible and that it is happening right now not that far up from us in seoul. Once you think about it, it was totally natural for them to be that way looking at how they grew up and by the propaganda that the North Korean government is endlessly feeding them. It really makes you get a sense of how scary and powerful the influence of propaganda can be. That was the coolest aspect of this book to me.

I just finished escape from camp 14, and it is very very interesting. It gives me a whole new idea how North Korea was. Also, it was very scary to read because the tortures that North Koreans give to the prisoners are just so violent. But as you read the book, there are parts where the author talk about the government more and more. When those parts come up, it's just too sleepy for me to read. I hate reading stuffs about governments haha. So, I learnt that I shouldn't major government issues and all that haha.

I'm half way through the book! I actually really like the book. I didn't like it because it was disturbing and horrifying (how the guards punished the prisoners in the camp) but I liked it because it gave me another view to the world. Shin was born and raised within this camp, the guards and the government shaped his personality and the way he thinks. He was a true Camp 14 prisoners. He knows all the rules, he worked hard like other kids, and he knew that he was there because he has to wash away his parent's sin. He NEVER thought of escaping but then one day he wanted to escape. I was surprised how a person who had been taught in the North Korean way turned out to had escape just because a man told him that he could find good food outside. So far it's very fun

:3 im also half way~~ the beginning was a bit confusing since it's a combination of interviews from a first person view and then switched into the third person for Shin's stories~~ I really didn't like parts where they included facts and political stuffs~~ >< but it gave a pretty good background info~~ Im now curious how this book ends~ Im also curious how Shins actually successfully escape such place with high security~~

I just chose Escape From Camp 14 because The Knife Of Never Letting Go was really hard to find. I was actually more interested in the whole dystopian world that TKONLG had going on but in the end, after reading Camp 14, I was really glad I chose it. It's really eye opening and I do wish North Korea would just release all of them and stop being North Korea. Also I really, really want to meet Shin.

im half way camp 14,.. and wow i realy enjoy this book... really sad to read this. As i was doing my annotation i felt real anger towards the guards and the gov of N. Korea treating their people in that way. What did they do so bad that they were born in N. Korea and have to be treated in that way. They deserve natural rights! Also the guards should be in the prisoner's shoes and see if they like it when they are treated that way! I REALLY HATE THE GUARDS AND THE FIRST TEACHER SHIN HAD... WHAT AN HORRIBLE TEACHER! but then the other teacher was really nice and I like thanked him on the inside.. haha.. I'm really enjoying this book.. like if I'm actually reading then i'm really enjoying it hhaha

I think the condition at camp 14 was beyond horrible.I honestly like this book because it makes me think of how lucky I am for not being born or live there..we're here living in a good life, smiling, laughing while the people there suffers badly.
