For those who are reading Escape from Camp 14, you'd know that Shin reported on his mom and brother's plan to escape when he was little. So there's no reason why they didn't succeed since the guards all knew. But what if Shin hadn't reported on their escape or if he didn't listen to their conversation at all? Would they have escaped?
I think yes, they probably would have some chance to escape. The security would probably have been low because no one has ever escaped the camp and most would never think to do so. And like how Park and Shin escaped, one of them might have ended up becoming an insulator for the other when passing the electric fence. I'm not sure if they would've made it all the way to China though since the same luck that happened to Shin might not happen to them.

I agree with you Luke, I think they would had escape anyways. But I don't think they will make it because according to the book, there are little percentage or even hope for the prisoners to escape from the camp due to the amount of security guards around the area and also the electric fence that would kill them alive. I think that his mother and brother would still escape but the decision of leaving Shin behind would still be the same because they never planed to take him with them since the beginning.

I agree! i think that's why the guards have been telling the prisoners all those stuffs of you need to "cleanse" your blood by hard work, public execution (creating fear), and many penalties for escapers' relatives.
If every prisoners have the thought of escaping, there might be a high chance of a bigger scale escape due to the number of prisoners vs the guards? maybe~~ :3
Shin escaped the camp with a few scratches from the electric fence, which basically means that escaping isn't that difficult.

One of them would've died because of the electric fence. Even in the book it states that 'to pass safely though the fence, he needed a device that could shunt the flow of current from the fence to the ground. Park's body....became that device.' Probably the mother would've survived because she's older and less athletic than her son. If karma was in play here, they both would have died for not mistreating Shin and not letting him and his dad into the escape plan.

I think they would escape because it is said in the book Shin's brother would be punished sooner or later because he escaped the working site without permission. However, I don't think both of them would escape successfully, or even if they do, one of them would die. Shin was very lucky when he escaped Camp 14, as explained in book. He had Park with him, who died at the electric fence before Shin. And also considering all the events he had gone through after escaping Camp 14, it's very likely that Shin's mother and brother would face similar thing.

I would say NO It seemed like shin escaped from the camp very easily, but it was because there was nobody chasing after him. In the case of shin's brother, hes done something wrong and he came to home without informing the leader of where he works. The leader is going to find out that shins brother is missing in less than a day and will chased after shins brother soon. And unlike shin, shins brother and moms plan was made up in one night whereas shin has been plannin with park for days. I would say they were gna get caught eventually

I would still say even if Shin didn't report his mom and brother they would've still got caught. If it's two people trying to escape it would be easier for the guards to catch them because there's an extra movement within those two people and also, his mom and brother weren't really intelligent or smart with their choice of escaping, and they should've planned more about it and should have been more smart with their escaping plan.

I agree with Luke. I think they would have escaped. Since Shin was able to escape without any guards spotting him, I think Shin's mom and his brother would have been able to do it. I feel like Shin's brother would have died by the fence like Park and Shin's mom will crawl on top of him.
If Shin's mom and brother escaped, Shin would never have been able to escape.

Even if Shin didn't inform about his mother and brother's plan on escaping, I still think that they would get caught, because three people escaping together could be recognizable to the guards. Also, the electric fence could've kill them. Shin had burns from the electric fence and took a long time to cure. Shin would never feel guilty about what he did to his mother and brother then.

I'm not really sure. I think there is 50% chance of Shin's mother and brother getting caught and 50% chance of them not getting caught. But I have a feeling that they were more likely to not get caught because only Shin successfully escaped from the camp, so I think probably only Shin's brother would have survived.

I think no because of the electric fence, just same as what shin and park experienced. Also they cannot use the method like Shin did because they are family, they can't use other's body to pass through there. So I think even if Shin didn't said that, noone could escaped in the camp

If Shin didn't report then he would have been killed and never planned his escape from Camp 14. Or he would live through a harsh life for the rest of his life and just give up in his life without seeing any hopes whatsoever.

It kind of goes 50/50, Shin's mom and brother would make to the fence for sure, but i dont think they will be able to make through the electric fence. What happened with Shin's escape was very lucky but unfortunate as he had no help in outside world. Shin's moms and brothers escape probably would had been unsuccessful because its nearly impossible to get over the electric fence.

I think if shin didn't report about his mothers escape then they would have made it out but then Shin wouldn't be able to escape because he would have to face the punishment for his famili's escape.

If in the end he didn't confess to the guards I think he'd be dead right now..
