So we're studying about transcendentalism and we now know 2 famous transcendentalists. But how about you? Do you have or experienced any transcending ideas or beliefs?
You probably can't say that this is a big example of transcendentalism but I've always have the thought of do we really have to wait until the crossing sign changes. Of course you should wait when cars are passing by but when there are no cars on the road and there's like a 0.000001% chance of you walking into a car accident, should you still wait for the sign to change? Isn't it better to just cross even though it's a red light for the sake of saving your own time? Like whenever I end up doing it, I always kinda feel bad that I just broke the law but I don't necessarily feel guilty about it.
So how about you? What are some transcending ideas or beliefs that you have or experienced?

I guess riding cars are bad idea or something i go against. Well now days people prefer taking cars and bus. But I personally thinks it's really weird to do so because each year we get thousands and millions of car accident killing people, which actually didn't even happen when car wasn't evented. It is true that cars actually go and help us save time but it actually brings a lot of torubles at the same time. So I guess I believe that using cars and buses are really unecessary thing to do, not to waste time just to be all safe and try not to accidently kill someone. And who knows you might someday use car and have car accident killing someone.

I was talking to Ms. Boyd and we were discussing about some of the laws that we have today in the world. Why is prostitution illegal in America but not pornography? Why is marrying your cousin allowed in Saudi Arabia but not in Thailand? Why do we have to be 18 to be allow to do things? Who is the one who sets what is right or wrong? This is one of the transcendentalist ideas that I have and is still confused about.

I feel like texting, or other technology related methods of communication are bad and make us lazy. Instead of just hanging out with our friends, we end up just texting them instead of meeting them. And communication is not just words. Most of it comes from our expressions, tone, body language and other factors. I do know that these methods are useful for keeping in touch with friends that live far away, but we ended up using these methods as shortcuts for daily life.
And I think that sucks

Well, true that. When I was in NY, i saw a lot of people who just crossed the road even if the sign was red. Also when one man just cross the road when it was red, everyone else who was waiting for the sign just followed the guy. So I think for this situation, only the first guy who crossed the road can be example of transcendentalism, and the everyone else are just following the society. Also I think the Joker from Dark knight can be great example for transcendentalism because Joker has his own idea about the world. He doesn't follow the rule of world, but he always follow his own rule. All criminals what he did was not for power, not for money, it was just for fun/his own satisfacation

In my country, if you want to cross street by going on the road marking and in the red light time, you are transcendentalist. Everybody cross street when they want even though there are lots of cars in the street. The distant between two traffic lights is quite long about 20 minutes walking so everybody think cross in illegal way is right.

In Japan, almost people wait to change a red sign when cars are not crossing. If one guy crossed the road, other people still wait. Maybe Japan has few transdentalist. This is national character.

There are so many laws and regulations that we juust dont like. For example i really hate that theaters dont allow teens to watch all movies that come out. I understand rated R we basically almost old enough to watch them, but some movies come out up to age 19, its so annoying because turns out that most movies that have age limited 19 are just same as rated R. Like movie Host, i just really find it weird.

I guess getting a smartphone is, because people started to get a smartphone because other people have one. Also, it is pretty crazy thing to have one. We keep it with us every single day! I mean not once do we let go of smartphone?... and we sometime talk to our friends with the phone for fun even if they're right next to you. If we say there will be no smart phones the whole world will be in panic. And surprising thing is there are some people don't want to get a smartphone. I guess there are transcendentalists.

Haha, I always and always wanted to do that because I am usually in hurry. Especially, when there is a bus that takes you home and that doesn't usually come unless you have to wait for at least 15 minutes! I am really eager to just run towards it but I never do it since there is law.
I think I had lots of transcendental ideas. I don't know which on specifically, but lots of people say that I am weird or special, thanks to Ruchira, because I think different from others. They say I am unpredictable. I think that can be transcendental as well because I am following my own instinct to do whatever I think and say it to others even though others think it is weird. Oh, one of the examples will be flying pineapple. I just imagined that and I found it really funny. Isn't it being transcendentalist?

For me, I don't really believe that rumors are true. For example, there were rumors about one person that he/she was filthy, didn't brush his/her teeth, and never took shower. These rumors make other people in school start to hate this person and don't dare to approach him/her. If I was in one of these situations, I would just step up, regardless of what other people might say and talk to that person. Even though those rumors were true, I still would've talk to that person because I don't want to follow what other people believe in.

For example, you wear the bikini and walk outside. Maybe people will stare hard at you because you are wearing a bikini on cold day. But you are transcendentalism so I must not care about other people. You shoudnt feel something.

In China, almost people will not wait for traffic lights. For me, if there are lots of car, i have to wait, or waiting for more people and cross the road together.

I think getting a smart phone is an example of transcendentalism, because you are basically following what others are doing, because if you have a 2G phone, everyone is going to look at your phone and say that that's such an old phone. For example, my boyfriend had an iphone, but his mom forced him to change to a 2G phone because he played game too much, and didn't to his homework. Therefore, he had to change his phone to an old phone. When I first heard that he had to change his phone to a 2G phone, I thought that it was wrong, I don't know why, but I think it was because I was not used to text messaging, because I was used to using the kakaotalk. However, now, I don't mind

My sister, Jessica, is a great example of a transcendentalist. She wears really colorful and weird looking socks, just because she likes it. Also, she sings out loud in the middle of nowhere, following to her own instincts. She says that you cant do anythingif you dont follow your instincts.
