Hey guys. We were talking about the "The Masque of the Red Death" for the past few days. I really think that the "7 rooms" is a very significant part of the story and I actually wanted to know what each color represents.
Yesterday, we actually talked about the first room, blue. Ms.Boyd said it represents birth since blue is a symbol of innocence. So I want to let you guys contribute to this post by describing each color! Yayy~

Green might represent childhood because it's the next step in the cycle of life. Maybe it could also connect to how in spring and summertime, when the year is young, trees have green leaves. Also, green could represent growth because when plants and trees start growing they usually are green.
Um that was off the top of my head, some of you might not agree or even have better interpretations so look at this critically.

Ms Boyd said these 7rooms are represent consistently. I think gree represent new things such as new leaves after winter, the action of sprouting.

all i remember is that black one is the last one that represents death and the end, she also refered it to winter as the winter also represents death. We talked about it in the class and applied it to abrahamic religions, the old testement because on those 3 religions people rest on sunday, spend time with family and stuff, but in the story the final 7th room is the black room that represents death.

I was a little surprised when i heard blue was the color of the door of the first room. I was expecting something else like yellow..? Or red. I thought blue represented peace and stuff not the beginning. Although yellow and red might not fit too, i dont think blue really dont fit to be the first color of the seven doors. But after listening to the instructions, i kinda realized why it was blue. It was blue because it represents birth.

I think white means getting old because it reminded me of hair color of elderly. It could also mean getting near to death because of snow in winter (winter means death).

When Ms. Boyd was talking about the colors to us, I immediately knew that the colors had meanings, but I didn't really understand that there were multiple meanings in each color. I thought that there was only one particular meaning for each, but that didn't seem to be the case.

Wow, there are already a lot! Well, I will write down what I think.. I think it might overlap with others a lot. first of all, 7 rooms represent a week and beginning of the room is the birth and end of the room is death. That is why the last room is black. And it goes from east to west, showing pass of time. Ebony clock is in the last room to show the pass of time as well. And old people's reaction to the ebony clock was quite calm, calmer than younger because they expect their death. So here, ebony clock can also means death. Also corners in the hallway shows prince's uniqueness. It also represents unseen future. We can never see future, right? So it is in corners because we can't see our future or death. And each color represents some part or phase in our life. Blue - Sad, cool Green - Freedom, fresh Black - Death, end violet - rich? Like royal, lonely White - pure, clean I don't remember all the colors....

Wow we all have pretty much the same answer. Blue is probably new beginning, representing birth, or life like water. Green is the teenager part of your life. Violet is i guess you get older and everything is getting darker. Black can represent death, or end since black is black. It is dark.

I researched what purple meant. It symbolizes royalty. Not only that, but also good judgement and happiness is represented by the color purple. When we consider that purple is made from a mixture of red and blue, we can get a hint or its symbolism.

Things I googled. Red- color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. orange- Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation. These are two colors I found i don't know if its related to the story.. but.. still..
