So yeah, Finals are coming up and Ms Boyd said that our presentations will be on the test, and im pretty sure what she says at the end of each presentation, briefly going over all the important stuff that we missed, will be on the test. So, we should share our info about our own presentations too guys
I'll go over mine "Metamophoses: Story of Icarus and Daedalus" so the first thing that ms boyd mentioned is that:
All sons want to be like their father (father and son relationship)
Father and Son, God and Humans (Daedalus and Icarus wants to and feels like god by getting wings, however falls)
I didn't do my presentation on my literature yet but mine is a short poem called The Panthers written by Rainer Maria Rilke. I know that I have presented it to you guys yet but let me write few important stuffs down to help you guys study for the final.
Summary: This poem is about a panther being locked up in a cage by the humans. The panther is so depressed and hopeless because he is forced to stay in the cage by humans even though he wanted to live in it's natural habitat. He is striding in circles, hoping to get out of the cage someday. Suddenly, he starts to have hope again when he sees the image of people for a brief moment. Unfortunately, he lost his hope again when he realized that it were the same people who locked him up in the cage.
Analysis: Connection: During his childhood, the author is treated like a girl by his friend and is forced to go to military school even though he didn't want both of them. His childhood nightmare relates to the panther being forced to live in a cage.

So my project's about the Zen Parables and Teachings. They don't require much analyzing, which is why they're really powerful and spread easily. Everyone can understand the teachings of Zen. So i'll just post summaries instead.
Aim in life Summary: Do not make it your aim in life to care about the material things. You’d be miserable.
Contamination of Virtue Summary: Do good things for the sake of doing good things. Not because you want something in return.
Hypocritical Scholars Summary: Use your knowledge to better the world, not to increase your status or pride.
Publishing the Sutras Summary: Tetsugen wanted to publish the sutras, and went around collecting donations for it. But this and that happened, and by this and that I mean floods and epidemics, and tetsugen used the donations to help rebuild the people’s lives after the disaster. But in the end, he managed to get the sutras published and the first two sutras were better than the last. Analysis: Actually, the first two sutras were the good deeds that Tetsugen did, which was donating his collections to people who needed it the most. Basically it’s a metaphor for how actions are stronger than words.
Right and Wrong Summary: Bankei holds lessons and invites students to come to his lessons. Now, one student happens to steal from him. This happens many times, and the other students make a petition to kick him out. Bankei refuses because he wants to keep the thief and teach him the right way. A teacher’s duty is to teach a student what is right from wrong, and he must keep at it. Every person has their bit of good in them, and no one is truly evil. You must keep trying to unlock that hidden kindness. Do not punish evil with evil. Treat evil with kindness, and eventually, it’ll follow your example.
So my story is Epic of Gilgamesh, the story i red is from table 7 to 12. So the story begins with Enkidu and Gilgamesh (Enkidu is someone god have sent to punish Gilgamesh but someway they become really close friend, Gilgamesh is 2/3 god and 1/3 human) going on a quest. Enkidu have this dream about gods being mad at the acts Enkidu and Gilgamesh have done and they put a curse on Enkidu (ancient mesopotamia curses are things that will change peopl's destiny not something used to speicifically kill smoeone). After this dream Enkidu get's very ill and he dies (ancient mesopotamia dieing of sickiness is very disonorable death which tells that in mesopotamia people cared about honor before they died). Gilgamesh is crying and all sad and he comes back to his town and everynoe is all sad. Gilgamesh suddenly then says i have to contiune this journey and he makes excuess saying I have to continue to honor Enkidu's death, here he is rationalizing himself and saying I have to continue this journey for Enkidu where actually he is just doing it because he is afraid of death because he is 1/3 human. While he goes on with the journey he meats many people and while these traveling it shows personality of gilgamesh, in begining he is very elegent, but threw out the journey he changes and he becomes carying person. Threw this Gilgamesh also learns true imortalities come when his colony or as long as his town or citiy survivces he will be imortal.
Things that r important in my story (The Spy) *you can't trust your own children *Hitler Youth (60% of population of boys were involved in Hitler Youth; later on, another group was created for girls also. The youth were used as a messenger or "the spy" and would report their parents to the police if anything is suspicious or if the parents talk negatives about Hitler. The children would report their own parents because they think it is a right thing to report their parents if any of those occurs. (brain washed) (connection equilibrium)) *People have to live in fear every moments of their lives(people have to be careful even at the place where they should most feel comfortable) *The quote by Hitler, Ms. Boyd talked about it in class. *In the story, the parents don't know if the boy is telling the truth or not (living in fear) Also, when they first found out that the boy was missing, they were freaking out and started to think of hanging a huge portrait of Hitler in their house and would try to do things that will show the loyalty towards Hitler.
Watching my presentation or Lin's presentation would be helpful for further information. but I think the things I wrote above are the most important. So.. don't worry too much and Good Luck with your finals!
My story is Sinbad the sailor. What she told was important from this literature is the formula. The formula is that, Sinbad used to on a journey every time he got bored. After going to his journeys he would get into deep trouble and regret coming in the first place. He thinks that he is gonna die every time he goes on a voyage, but he comes back more richer than his last voyage.
Author: Yehuda Amichai 1924-2000 Born in Wrzburg, Germany Jewish Escaped to Palestine (modern day Israel) because of Nazi Germany’s Jewish Holocaust Palestine was controlled by England: He and other Jews should fight for England in WWII Involved in Israeli Independence Movement Fought in Arab-Israeli War of 1948
History of Israel Jews were persecuted 2000 years ago (refer to Bible) Persecuted by Arabians and Nazi Germany Independence Movement started Arab countries disagreed independence (violence started at this point mostly by Palestine Arabians) Independence declared (only the area where many Jews live; area that is not declared independent is called Palestine) Arab-Israeli War of 1948 occurred on the day the independence was declared Israel won Additional wars occurred and Israel won; Arab countries decided not to attack Israel again
Critics: The author probably hates Israel’s response toward enemy: Hezbollah and Hamas (terrorist groups) made to attack Israel Settle on south and east of Israel; terrorized Israel Israeli soldiers crossed the border to kill terrorists but it ended up in killing civilians (because they attacked civilian village) A result of responding violently to attacks and acting before the attack Does not have persuasive persuasions that can justify its actions Even though Israel tries to maintain peace, its revenge to Palestine is criticized all over the world
Society: Since Israel has lots of conflicts, men and women go to military service One thing we misunderstand about Israel is that Israeli soldiers are not patriotic and don’t want to fight for their country Too much conflict made Israeli do something to avoid military service Even though they’re enlisted, crimes occur within military bases (such as sexual abuse, murdering of military commanders, drug abuse, escaping, etc.)
Plot: refer to prezi
Significance: The impact of war is so large that it not only affects people within war but also ones who are outside war zone (such as a person who is outside a war zone lost a friend who was killed in war) Mental pains greatly increase damage of war Disagrees war Revenge brings bigger damage Going to army is hard (we feel it will be fun but once we go there it’s not) Death is never fun (no matter what kind of death it is) Perfect soldiers never exist (soldiers don’t like to fight but have to)
Other stuffs: Major themes: negative consequence of war Mood and tone: serious and sad Conflicts, internal/external, resolution: Overcoming loss (physical and mental); internal; can’t be solved unless going to clinic Symbolism: circle (the destruction range) Literary element: repetition (circle) Can be connected to movie Platoon and Hurt Locker (main characters enlisted to army because they think it will be fun -> realize the horribleness of war -> plans screw up -> cannot get out of the cruel reality)

Summary: A letter sent from a wife to her husband, who is faraway to work(merchant). She doesn't know when he is coming back so she waits and waits. In the poem(letter), it describes how she was so shy at first and as time went by, she actually got to love her husband. And now, she is missing her husband, who went out to work.
things that are important: -Li Po liked to drink. One day, he got drunk and he tried to get the moon and he drowned. -Short bangs represent young girl -Monkey in Chinese culture represent happiness, but in the poem, the monkeys represent the wife's sorrowful feeling.
Oh i forgot to tell my summary. Anyways I'll post again. Summary: Sinbad the sailor went to 7 different voyages, it is a frame story where sinbad tells a story to a bag carrier. A frame story is a story within a story. Here Sinbad is telling his story of richness to a bag carrier. He became rich by going to 7 different voyages. We need to know only the 2nd voyage. In the 2nd voyage Sinbad goes to a beautiful island and falls asleep. When he wakes up he sees his crew left so he tries to escape but instead he goes to another island carried by a roc, which is a huge bird. Now he gets into a bigger trouble because in the new island there are no food, only diamonds. But then he sees a dead sheep rolling down. He attaches himself to it and the roc carried them out from the island into another island where people attacked the bird and the roc had to let go of Sinbad and the sheep. This is hoe he escaped. Before escaping he prought some diamond from the island in his turban which increased his wealth again.
Important things: 1) 1001 nights- a collection of stories, this is a story where a king marries and kills women everyday until one of his wife told him a cliffhanging story to keep him curious and let her live. She tells stories for 1001 nights. Sinbad the sailor was among those stories.
2) It is believed that Sinbad the sailor was a modern version of an Egytian tale called "The tale of the Shipwrecked sailor".
