We are watching movie equilibrium and main character suddenly stops taking medicine that kills his emotions. Do you know why he is doing it? I personally think he finally realizes what horrible things he was doing in past and that there is way better things besides killing. He developed in himself resistance not to listen to other people and just do what will help people. He finally found emotions inside of himself what you think?

Well, the movie showed that he dropped the drug and didn't take it that day. As mentioned during class, "feeling" is like an addiction. When you get to feel, you want to feel more. so since then, he could feel (sympathy for the dog, sense offenders). Then what your idea kicks in. After he gets to feel, he then realizes the horrible things that he committed. not that he realized what he was doing was bad, but that the accident of dropping the drug that caused all that to happen

As we talked about this in the class.. once you start to "feel" you want to feel more. It's like a drug, you get addicted. Once the main character started to feel, he finds out the happiness? or whatever of the emotions. You saw that he rips off some kind of paper that was attached to his room windows and he sees lights? and feel the outside. Also, the dog, he finds out what's right & wrong thing to do... Him dropping the med reminds me of butterfly effect... starting from dropping the med and it later causes him rebelling.

He stopped taking drugs in the first place because he started to have emotions and he felt great about it then he realizes that he killed a lot of people for having emotions and feelings. He obviously felt bad about it so he start changing and kill the emotionless people instead because life is useless if you don't feel

The main character started to change because he accidently saw a lot of hidden artistic things in the houses where emotional people live. It may not work immediately, but if he saw a lot of them, then he will change (others may change or not, depending on their personality). After that, he felt a remorse what he did in past and decided not to take drugs and do wrong things.

I believe that he started to change because he has finally realized all the horrible things he has done in the past and also how amazing emotions are. I love emotions. I love the way I feel towards things. So, I guess he also felt like that and was amazed by the emotions and started to not inject himself anymore.

Yes, the protagonist accidently dropped the drug, and that lead to him not taking the drug, and that made the protagonist feel again.
But there is one thing that baffles me. If a small accident like dropping the drug can trigger a person to start feeling, then don't you think that there may be other people who made the same mistake? Mistakes like that are not very very rare. So there may be other people who feel as well. Why didn't the movie show other people who feel?

Well, the movie's about John Preston's character, so the movie'll only show his side of the story. Remember that scene where his son told him off for dropping his vial of Prozium? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that most incidents are reported to the Father or some other authority figure immediately. Preston didn't get reported because he's one of the more powerful figures in the society, as seen in the part where he hides the dog in his car's trunk, where the policeman can recognize him by sight.
And this is just a hunch, but I think his son isn't on Prozium. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so ticked off by his sister's fidgety behavior in the breakfast scene.

In my opinion, I think he stopped taking the medicine because he was realizing how cruel the government and the people were. After realizing how cruel the society is, he also realized the cruel things that he did. Before stop taking the medicine, he had no feelings, so he didn't care if he killed a lot of people. However, after stop taking the medicine, he started to feel bad for those people who had to die.

In the movie, the main character accidentaly drops the drug that kills his emotion. To get a replacement, he went to the drug store. This made the main character not to take his drugs, which slowly made him to feel. And now, the main character completely refuses to take the drug.

I agree with Woojong and Esther, I believe that because he dropped the drug by accident, he couldn't inject it. So he tried to went to equilibrium, where the medicine is made (according to protagonist's son. I don't remember what the main character's name!). But he doesn't get the drug and he starts to feel things. As others have said, he was addicted to 'feeling' and couldn't stop himself from indulging feelings. Since than, I believe he has joined the 'resistance' who is opposed to anti-feeling idea. They were also known as sense-offender.
I really want to finish this video to find out the ending... This is really fun movie.

I like what Justin said that "emotion" was as addiction. When you got to feel, you wanted to feel more. That is 99.99% right like when you have done something fun. Next time, you will want to do it again. People have broken the law to do what they got fun such as talking in class, using drug,...

Well, everybody is saying the same thing. But I agree. The main character "accidentally" drops the drug and gets a chance to feel something. As others mentioned, feeling is like "addiction." If you feel once, you want to again and again. And it's obvious for him to find ways to feel since he's the main character.

Just like everyone said above, a series of events occur that stops the guys from taking the drug long enough for him to start feeling. And once you start feeling, you continue to want more and more. So he keeps avoiding his drug and continues to feel and sense emotions. Which must have been a new sensation. I wonder how it feels to start feeling when you haven't felt anything your whole life.
