Three minute clip. Read on below for ma questions. If you didn't catch on to all of that video, that's fine. He talks rather fast. But here's the total scoop: What Silva was trying to say is that the emotion and state of being in awe helps us survive. Awe motivates us to persist. It drives us to learn more. And, it is the emotion behind inspiration. If you've seen that thread I've made already, then that should make more sense. I have two questions: One, think about the last time something inspired you, motivated you, gave you goosebumps, what was it and what did you do? Two, Equilibrium labelled emotions as an enemy of peace, of progress, and a hindrance to survival. Personally, I do feel awe can motivate and inspire so many to do so much. What other emotions do you think can do the same, and how? While you're at it, here's Hubble Extreme Deep Field: Each speck of light is a galaxy. And some are 13.2 billion years old. When you look at those dots of light, you are staring through time at a universe billions of years ago.

mmm i honestly didnt rly get what the guy was talking about. So i guess to be very good at anything is also motivates, cause you want to show what you can do. I think maybe helping each other ca be caused from movie because main guy in the movie helped others as he helped people with emotions.

I understand some of the informations in the video, and I agree with Silva that state of awe makes people improve. Other than that, I believe that competition is important for people (furthermore, a country) to improve and cooperate.
And here's the answers for your questions:
1. As I told before, DPRK's attack of our ship inspired me that I should do something to make my country improve (right now, I am young and can't do anything) after I realized that our country is weak in front of other countries.
2. To me, anger (deinition related to competition) can force people to improve. For example, when you get B+ on test and a student that you really hate got A+, you automatically get angry and fear that he or she will be better. As a result, you work hard to be better than the rival. But this is just one definition of anger, and other definitions will affect badly.

Yes, it is very confusing. But, I think the guy in the video exaggerates the advantage of emotion by going very deeply into the field of biology. I don't get like the half of the video. But anyways, to answer your question, I was recently motivated by a semi-pro basketball player whose height is literally 4 ft. This guy is an insane genius. Watching this video made me FEEL a lot. I was awestruck, shocked, jealous, happy and sad for him, and depressed and worthless of myself. Yes, by feeling from this movie, I was inspired. Nothing is impossible. Keep trying and that is what I exactly wanted to do. You're right Kevin. Check this video out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV7C1vwlrws

The most recent account that I can remember which inspired me is when my academy teacher gave our class a short talk about his dreams. He talked about how he dreamed of making an awesome education program which can dramatically help students learn how to use English, how he dreamed of making a college of his own consisted of his own religious and humanitarian staff in order to provide free education to the willing but unable intellectual minds, and how he is doing so far in accomplishing his dream. It was the words he said and the way of how he said them that inspired me that I fell a fire starting to ignite inside me. He made me realize that I should be doing something as important as him to; pursuing my dreams.
As for emotions, I believe that any emotion can motivate us an encourage us into doing something. Happiness can encourage us to do something more, sadness can encourage us to do the opposite, fear can make us refrain from doing something, or courage can propel us from doing something, etc. In all sorts of ways, emotions can be used to direct what actions we may do.

I usually don't think much being awestruck. However, if it does increase feelings of empathy and altruism like the video said, then it must have a lot of hidden potential.
Watching high-paced news about acts of heroism really inspires me for some reason. I guess it's something about seeing that your average bystander can just leap into action and do something extraordinary that saves the lives of people directly involved and changes the mindsets of the people watching that tells you that you can also be someone special.
Anger could motivate us. Not anger that makes us go berserk, but a type of tranquil fury, where we have our emotions in check, but we are also passionate, so that we can achieve the most.

That was an interesting video. I didn't clearly understand but I got the point. (btw, that guy was really passionate about what he was talking about) The general idea of the video would be that awe makes us motivated. The last thing that motivated me and gave me goosebumps is probably the video that Esther posted. It was a video of an astonishing achievement and it motivated me to actually step up and not be so afraid of failing. For your second question, simple emotions such as happiness can even motivate us to do things that we normally wouldn't do. In the media, there is so much propaganda towards children, telling them to "follow your heart" which is easily translated to, "do what you feel like" and feel = emotions. So basically, we all do what we feel. In this video, the emotion, Awe, is exaggerated to so many levels in biological terms that it makes it seem like Awe is the reason of life and that the human species has survived only because of Awe. That's just my opinion.
