well, the whole point of killing the people who have emotions is not to make them start the war. Basically, they are killing the people for peace, which is ironic.

The movie had a lot of flaws. In the start, the government stated that nobody has emotions but they expected the citizens to react to their speeches and actions. How could they without emotions? Also, when Christian Bale started feeling and his partner was suspicious. Isn't suspicion an emotion? I think when the movie is saying that the people can't feel any emotions, they are only considering the emotions that makes people weak, such as love, pity and sorrow.

I don't get the concept of marriage in the movie. Marriage occurs when two people love each other. In the movie, John was married with the woman (before he started to feel) who died in giant incinerator. This means that he can feel before he accidently dropped the drug.
And there are no points of making people emotionless. Technically, Libria consists of people and their children who survived World War 3. Survivors were the ones who know horribleness of war and if they are not crazy, they would work hard to prevent the war.
No emotion=No war is weird formula.

i agree with junghoo about the fact that the partner seems to have emotions. He was clearly was angry when he knew that the main character switched guns and killed the guards.

I also found some parts confusing while I was watching the movie equilibrium. The points that you were confused were also parts of them. But I don't think you really have to think that deeply, because that is only going to make us more confusing. For the first part, I think people were clapping to show that they are respecting the leader. And second, even if the leader says that emotions make murder and crimes, I still think that the government should kill someone who does illegal things.

On second thought, the fact that this shitty-ass movie existing itself is weird.
