In the movie, Dupont said that he can feel. I agree with Kevin. I think that he kept it a secret so that he can control the citizens. If he let the citizens feel and know that they are being controlled, Dupont knew that the citizens wouldn't be obedient.

I think Dupont eradicated people's emotion to prevent the rebellion from happening. If people had emotions, they will think that they are living in a freedomless country (feeling anger) and will do something to cause a riot. Since they can't feel, they think that Libria is the best country.
This is similar to modern day dictatorship countries, where dictators brainwash citizens when they are young. They can't distinguish between actual information and wrong information, making them feel that their nation is best.
And I could understand why government killed people with emotion instead of imprisoning them. The government feared that they would escape and make more people with emotion. It was safer to kill them immediately after they were found.

i think that dupont from his experience he thinks that world is hell because of the wars and then the 21st century war, he thought to make this world a peaceful place he decided to have his society no feelings so that they wont have anger and they wont fight, so this will make everyone equal this what he thought but this was equality in a wrong way.

I think he does have feelings or else he wouldn't be able to TAKE OVER CONTROL of the society. When he is the one who has feelings, he can be able to control everyone's mind because he is the ONLY ONE WHO HAS THE POWER. Others in the society that had stop taken the medicines might also have emotions but they do not have enough strength to take over the society by themselves.

The movie didn't go that far, so I don't know. I predict John (cleric) will be the next leader, and he will let people feel emotions (which is same way as modern countries do). John knew that there's no point of living when people can't feel and may have learned that emotion is needed for development.

I think Dupont didn't take Prosium because he wanted to feel the power that he had. Also, if he didn't have feelings would he be able to rule government as he wanted? I don't think so. If he didn't have any emotions, of course there wouldn't be greed. Dupont knew this so well, and this is why he didn't erase his emotions.

?? lolol his name is CHRISTIAN BALE!! What is dupont?? well those certain emotions, they are loop holes. that black guy, i forget his name showed joy when C. Bale was captured and some characters showed many different kinds of emotions at many times throughout the movie. They were big emotions though. I'm not a director or a writer, so i don't have any ideas on how to solve those loop holes. but yeah, many stories have loop holes, but i usually don't catch them and even if i do i just ignore them which is very bad for an english student.

The "Father" wanted absolute power in which no one can challenge, but by taking away the people's emotions, he can easily take over. Unfortunately, many sense offenders slipped right through his palms; affecting John Preston, which eventually caused the fall of the society.

I agree with your idea that Dupont wanted to control the society by using the concept of no emotions. He had people feel nothing so that they can't feel anything wrong about the society. They simply believe that their society is absolute and ultimate because they are told like so. Dupont planted powerful propaganda into their minds so that he can have full control over them while he can enjoy his own personal emotional life. He made a non-emotional society so that he can live an emotional life.
