i wasnt embarrased or anything that much...my american friends liked korean food and whenever i had some with me, they would eat it. I lived in america since i was born, so i was used to the culture...like wearing shoes at home (although i took off my shoes when i was at home) and yeah...i wasnt like amy. However when i came to korea, i had problem speaking korean alot because when i first came to korea, i was new to korea, and i had to learn more korean in order to talk to people. but i wanst embarrassed by that...im proud of korea AND america. there is nothing to be embarrassed of...

My parents don't allow me to go to places such as noraebang. But everyone thinks that this is not some place that should be restricted. So I whenever my friends ask me to go to those places, I was always embarrassed to tell them that I wasn't allowed to go.

I wouldn¡¯t consider this experience as being ashamed, but just to tell about strange experience. When I was in US, my parents (not sure if it was mom or dad) grilled dried squid in my house (traditionally, Koreans grill them). Suddenly, a group of policemen stormed into our house. They told us that one neighborhood smelled a weird smell (squid) from our house, thinking that it was a gas leak. Later, I knew that Americans get surprised when they smell something they never felt before. If they smell something they hate, then they get angry (similarly, someone who smells like that can be bullied).

When I lived in Denmark, I brought my friends over to my house. At first, we were gonna go out to eat, or at least bring something home from a restaurant. Then my mom surprised us all by saying that she was going to cook something Indonesian. So anyway, she cooked it, and we all ate it and my friends went home. Later on I found out that they didn't like it but instead of making me hate my culture, that incident made me love Indonesian food more so I'm glad it happened.

back when i was in taiwan, i used to be embarrassed when other people turn and stare at us when we spoke english. My family is quite international, so we used english to communicate. Whenever my father speaks, someone will randomly turn and look. It happens to frequently that i usually get embarrassed and feel like i should be speaking chinese But now im pretty confident of speaking English in public.

proud of my culture when one of my Australian friend came to my house he didnt know that he had to put off his shoes so house went in our living room with his shoes on without me realizing it. I saw some footprints on the living room floor and I panicked then I realize that it was my friend's shoes so I asked him to put off his shoes and explained to him why he shouldn't wear shoes in my house and he understands and respects it so the next day he comes to my house he straight away puts off his shoes before coming in

Well, I guess she was kind of immature. But at the same time I understood her! She lived in another country and she knew people in US don't eat that kind of food so she was embarrassed at the fact that she ate different food than others.

HAHAH And it's funny how everyone connected the story to their experiences in the U.S. ! hahahaha But my experience is not in the States however it was in a American School. I was a 1st grader and it was my first time studying in a school, and my first experience was in a American School. Even if i started my early times in a American/ international school the foods I ate were totally Korean! I loved Korean food! they are soo good! haha But, one day I packed my own lunch to school and i opened it and everyone was just like "ooh what's that smell?!" and I got really embarrassed! soo.... From then I never brought Korean food to school, and due to that, now i prefer western food than Korean
