We all watched and read the play "A Doll's House". Then I'm assuming that all of you remember that Krogstad forged a signature like what Nora did. Then why do you think he did this? For what reason? I think that after his wife's death, he needed to take care of his children somehow but he lacked the skills to do so, taking care of the house and stuff. So he had to hire maids to do the job but he was running out of money to pay for them. Unable to get money through other methods, he came to the decision to borrow money. So he paid his maids and planned to pay his loans back. But because he couldn't pay them off, he borrowed money again but in the name of his father to pay off the loans he made before. Eventually the people found this out somehow and his life got screwed from there.

i think he was just that greedy or desperate i should say. he needed money to support himself and his kids. so he forged the signature and got into some trouble for that. but now seeing nora in the same position, he feels no sympathy because he just doesn't care about her. he cares about himself and getting money for himself and his kids.

i agree Luke's opinion. I also think it was only because of duty of father. He had to take care of his family, but he was running our of money. If he couldn't get the money from Nora, and intimidated Nora, Krogstad couldn't earn money anymore, and he couldn't support his family. So i think Krogstad had no choice to do that

I think we discussed this in class too. That everyone is capable of committing heinous deeds if they're pushed too far, like if their place in society or their family is at risk, in Krogstad's case anyway. However, I feel like he should've just been honest and borrowed the money under his own name. There wasn't social taboos stopping him like in Nora's case, and if he did that he wouldn't be such a social outcast.

Wow, Luke, how did you end up predicting Krogstad's past like that? Impressive. It's really hard to tell what exactly happened because he himself didn't really mention his past in details. But as others said, it should've been the similar reason as Nora's, to support his family. He should've known that borrowing money by using other names brings a huge consequence and he wouldn't have any choice then. And to add my thought, I think Krogstad committing a fraud is pretty justifiable because he learns from it and tries to step up. He deserved a second chance.

I think that he wanted to get respect (I¡¯m thinking that amounts of respect depends on amounts of money a person owns at that time) by using threatening method to force her to pay money. At that time, people believed that men are stronger than women. After he lost his job and lost money, he thought about getting money from Nora by threatening (thinking that it will be successful).

I think he just had lack of money to support himself and his kids. He thought of the way out and forging was one option, unfortunate but an option. I kind of understand him because no one would want to have kids starving and show them their father cant do anything to get extra money. Some people might get very desperate with their actions. He forgave Nora and i think its because of uniting with ms linde as it was first happy thing to happen with him after his unlucky life

Yeah I think everyone kind of has the same ideas here. He probably just did it to get some money to support his family. Because Krogstad has forged a signature before, it made it easier to catch Nora's forged signature. It probably made it easier for him to notice it. Or maybe, Krogstad did it to save his wife(but failed), just like Nora trying to save her husband. That could have been a connection between the two characters.

I think that the reason why he forged the signature like Nora was because their reasons must have been exactly the same. He must have a good reason and thats why he knows the consequences of forging a signiture.

Krogstad was very desperate need of money to support himself and also his family. Paying for the expenses and etc. Yes, I agree with you yeajin. Krogstad and Nora were just trying to save their family and that would've been the strongest connection between Krogstad and Nora.
