I know it's been a long time since we read this story, but come to think of it, I wonder what you guys would think of this; what do you think was the most important thing that the society was missing in order to make it truly an equal society? In other words, what is most important in making an equal society? I think the most important thing that must be made equal is abilities; how good people are at certain tasks. There are people that are talented in music, in academics, in physical activities, in socializing and so on. These are what define our position in our society. Of course there are many other things to consider in order to make everyone equal, but I think this must come first. And Merry Christmas to you all~

I dont have any words to say because i think the idea itself is impossible to achieve (the goal to make an equal society) like we mentioned millions of time before people born with different abilities its just not possible to make people equal if it is possible, just like you said, their abilities must be equal so that everyones fair and equal Also the government should prevent someone like harrison burgeron

first of all thanks for posting something because i could not think of anything to talk about. i think if the government and "the people who run the society" really wanted everyone to be equal, they should teach people good morals to have self confidence. if, from birth, people are taught to be proud of themselves and not compare themselves to others. that's it, they should enforce positive thinking from young ages. if people think low of themselves or feel they are not as good as someone else, that should be considered a crime. and as punishment they should be given help and taught to have self esteem

I agree with Luke! Abilities surely is something that should be equal in the society because people with different abilities keeps human race going with new ideas, developments, and discovers. For me the world "diversity" is the most important key to an healthy society. Being different from each other, having our own ideas and expressing our ideas to other people. But this could also lead to an unequal society because people have different ways of expressing their ideas so they might use it in a negative way. But one way to prevent this might also be encouraging child to be confident. Which I agree with Ruchira that parents and society should teach child to be confident from birth. Many people likes to compare themselves with other people. By doing this, it will either scare the child or encourage the child to improve themselves. But everything in the world has it advantages and disadvantages so it might be possible to create a society that is equal and it is also impossible.

I believe that a truly equal society is impossible. But I believe that it is possible for any society to be close to it even though it's really hard to think of how. If people have came up with an idea to promote equal society, everybody in our world would be happy and peaceful by following it. But it's not. People have different abilities and environments. It's extremely sad to admit the fact that some are better than others no matter where you're referring to.
I came back from Cambodia and we had a family trip there. It wasn't fantastic but I learned a lot of things. Some people in Cambodia suffer from poverty. Some children bother tourists with baskets full of bracelets, asking for one dollar. Though people in Cambodia consider their daily lives normal and are happy with them, it's obvious that they aren't economically developed. There are many reasons why Cambodia is a country with low standard of living (one reason is Pol pot, a dictator who killed thousands of people). There are many countries that aren't as well developed as others. I wondered why some parts of the world are living in such an unfair conditions and made me think about the societies around the world. Now looking at this post, I think a way to shape a truly equal society is sadly a mystery.

I think that people can be equal but not perfectly. In the future, there are a lot of perfect food, milk, medicines, treatment,surgery,... so it can make people become having a same intelligent , strength,... but each people have their own condition, ability. Thus, the objective things just can make them equal in some aspects but not at everytihng.

Making an equal society? Not with humans the way we are. We are born to be different. There can be no natural equality.
My best bet for human equality is an assembly line, manufacture one-and-the-same style human factory. Mass produce those humans! Peace is a lie! Individuality is a threat! Uniqueness is a weakness! I doth submit myself to thee, o great uniformity of thy Nature!
Nuts, I can't wait to see human augmentation. When, like gb says, we can make people stronger and faster and smarter and wittier, I wonder what will the enhanced humans think of the unenhanced humans and vice versa. I suspect blood.

i agree with james idea unless the entire population of humans are dead, this world will never be equal. In my opinion, the reason is that to make everything about a human equal,(ablities, attributes, feelings, thoughts, life span, gender, etc..) one community needs a "supervisor" and that "supervisor" will never be equal to the rest of the human kind

I think closest we could come to have an entirely equal society is to have everyone be happy. I think that could work because different people have different standards. Some are happy with what they have as long as they can support themselves and their families, while others need to be better than others. But that in itself is inequality, because like I said earlier, people have differing standards.

Making a society totally equal is not a good idea, but if you really want a society to be equal, then everyone should practice the exact same thing regardless of social classes. So the government will need to "suffer" and obey the law too. XD but if everyone have restricted talent and no rank or status, then it's just a bunch of lost people wondering what they should do. Since people have different standards of talent or intelligence, it creates inequality.

I also think that it is impossible to create an equal society because everyone has different potential. In this story people thought that if they block one¡¯s potential, and then a perfect society is formed. However, blocking that potential isn't fair. It is important to see the limit of your potential and then overcome that limit to create a new limit or a goal that you need to overcome once again.

I think the most important thing that needs to be in the society is obviously to have emotions. If there are more emotions, there would be a better society and more equality.

Well, it is true that it's impossible to make an equal society, but I know what would help to make the society to be closer to be equal: understanding of each other. Sounds like a cliche and stupid, but people tend to look down or up at other people when they realize that they have better/inferior abilities than others. Like what Kevin said, humans are born to be different and it is natural. But in this world, it seems that not many people acknowledge that fact, and that is why the society is not equal. If people appreciate their neighbors' talents, I think the society would be much better.

It is impossible to make completely equal world, but if people want to, then I suggest giving equal power to different social class. However, this only works for a short period of time because people will be greedy to have more rights. I doubt this will also lead to corruption because leaders and their political body don¡¯t want to have equal rights as lower class people do.
