Another thread, eng200.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=qutr2&action=display&thread=77, mentioned how "The World On the Turtle's Back" was really, really, really, weird. And that OFFENDS ME!Right about now, I want your blood. Because how dare you accuse a story of being weird without realizing that, at the time, everyone believed it to be normal! You insulted their chicken! I mean turtle! And that's offensive. Just because. So, that brings me to the point of this thread. [glow=red,20,500]I challenge you to think of something you believe is perfectly normal now, and try to imagine how and why someone from the distant future will think you weird for believing that nonsense.[/glow]I will start. _______________________________^^^^^^_______________________________ I believe that death is inevitable. And I think that, in a really long time, people from the future will look back at 2012 and think to themselves: "Isn't it weird and sad that people used to just give up living, just like that?
That they thought death was something they could surrender to, without fighting, that it was inevitable that you and everyone around you would all die and end and never come back?
What sort of depression did people suffer from?
They're so weird and it's so sad most didn't even think about, much less try, to conquer death.
I can't believe death was part of their culture back in 2012!
They're so weird." I guess once immortality is figured out, everyone who "accepts" death will be seen as a sort of crazy: by the time death is conquered, I suspect everyone who gives up living will be seen as weird. And that today's people, by the future's standard, is one giant evil and stupid civilization for not trying to save MILLIONS upon BILLIONS of people from eventually dying, and just accepting death into their culture. _______________________________^^^^^^_______________________________

Wow, nice imagination Kevin. I also think that people in the future might say that once immortality becomes a normal thing. But I wonder if you really thought that the idea is possible. I wish to know the answer to that since it's a little questionable. Anyways, I agree with the fact that as time goes on, people will eventually consider society back from then to be extremely strange. This reminds me of a movie, Wall-E. In the movie, there's a society within a spaceship since earth is no longer habitable due to serious pollution. People rely on innovative chairs to move, eat, watch TV (holograms), and many more. There's a scene where the captain of the spaceship realizes that there was once a planet called Earth. He is very surprised to learn that people used to dance, grow crops, and live by ocean. I actually believe that there's a possibility for this movie to become true.

I think in the future, doing things with our hands would be considered really weird. It's slowly starting to change, but most students write notes in class with their pens and notebooks and we create visual aid projects by hand, and we build things by hand. But in the future, they could have all the technology they need to record all the notes in class, create projects and whatever they have to do that wouldn't even need their hands to carry out the process. By then, if they hear storied from this century, they would think, "psh, that's so weird why would you make your science project volcano by hand? You can totally use our little gadgets for that."
That was my little thought but maybe it's a bit exaggerated. haha

Well, i agree with you about the immortality. Also, i think in the future, many things are going to be extremely weird. For instance, going to school, i think people will be able to be educated in their house. And just by looking at the Pedestrian, i think itd be considered weird to people hanging out outside. Another thing is time traveling, even though it is proven that the time traveling is possible, there are many people who still think it is impossible. In the future i think having an idea of time travelin is impossible is gna be considered weird.

I think in future everthing we do now will be just veery strange. As we develop technologies and immortality life changes with it too. I think in the future, all the technologies that we consider now will be just normal daily life things. Personally i think immortality is one of the bad that ever will be made.

I agree with that the things that we do in the future is going to be weird. We are going to see unknown things, go to strange places and yeah death is something that is going to happen to any human alive once.

First of all, Kevin, if people want to make immortality a normal thing, they'd have to solve today's overcrowding problems first right? But then again, I'm about to talk about something that will solve that problem too, so, here goes.
I bet that once people realize that Earth is too crowded to hold all of us, we'd take off to Mars or other planets. Once they've been made inhabitable, of course. After a while, there might be more people living on other planets than there are on Earth, and they might see the 'Natives' as old fashioned rednecks who need to embrace the future. So that's what I think our descendants will think is weird. That people would still want to live on Earth even though we can live on other planets.

Immortality...now that's something I'd like to have. But the thing is, it'd probably be the same for everyone else! Now when everyone wants something, whose the one that get's it? It's easy right? The one with POWER(more commonly known as money $). They'll be the ones who get to have it first when the ability of immortality is new. And you know what? They wouldn't want others to be able to experience their luxury, so they'd keep it a secret of their own. Immortality won't become something of the world. It'd be just part of the luxurious lives of those filthy rich people. So for me, I think that the days when we mourn for death and accept it will never end. The top classes won't need to accept it but for the most of us who won't be able to experience that luxury, we'll never be able to overcome death. We'll always be haunted by it no matter what sadly.

I think that cancer and AID/HIV would become something weird in the future even though we all know that right now it cannot be cure. Through advanced technology and knowledges I think that people would have no problem with diseases that was once known as impossible to cure.

I think humans, like us, will be considered as weird since we won't exist in the distant future. It would be like how we see dinosaurs and all the extinct animals in the past. haha...just joking. I agree with Yeajin and Brandon, because everything is starting to become automatized and stuff. Like the cellphone. In the past, everyone had to write letters and post them or just talk directly. But now, just some clicks of buttons do everything for us. Maybe in the future, house chores would be considered as weird because robots do everything for humans.

I'd certainly like to live on Mars. Or Pluto. Or Space. Or some other really awesome planet. Another possibility is to stop having children altogether. Did I scare/anger anyone here with that? I hope not. Cause the other solution is to kill the excess. So, between nadira and me, we've three solutions for overpopulation: 1. Relocate/Expand 2. Outlaw having children 3. Massacre the excess people Any other ideas?

Of course in the future it will be very different!!!! If we look at it right now, if we compare 2013 and 1480 or something it has developed A LOT!!!!

Who knew smart phones would be invented, who knew we could have a portable cameras, cameras that can internet browse using wifi. Right now there are some robots being invented to be the needy ones.

I believe in the future there will be flying cars, robots working at cafes, robots to deliver something to our house, a car that can be transformed and etc. Wish I could live in the year 3000

In the future, I believe something we think that is amazing would be treated like nothing, because there would be so much better things than now
