Ms. Boyd said that information about table manner between American people and Chinese people might be asked in the exam so... Do you guys have any ideas about the differences between the 2 cultures?
American 1.Uses separate spoons when eating. 2. People have to ask someone else to pass the dish if it is located on the other side of the table.
Chinese 1. Use your own fork or spoon. 2. Lean and grab the dish that you want to eat.

American: People have the dish and use general spoon or something to take the food into their dish to eat. They use spoon, fork.
Chinese: People use their bowl to store rice and use their own chopsticks,..to take a food to eat. They use chopsticks, spoon.

Well I agree with saimoon. In the story, it said that Amy was embarrased because his father burped in front of the American family. To the chinese people, burping was necessary. But, to the americans, it is considered as rude.

i remember Americans couldn't pick up their plate or bowl while eating and in the Chinese culture, the act of picking up the bowl can be seen everywhere. ( i made that mistake a lot in America)

ok, i'm neither american nor chinese so i really can't think of any other table manners. i know that in the states, it's rude to point (at people), anybody educated about the chinese culture has a response to that? be my guest.
i will tell u about the eating/guest serving/table manners in my country, or at least from my experience:
1. when guest comes over you MUST over food! and i mean u pick up the plate of snacks and shove it in their face and say "take one" until they take one.
2. when at the dinner table, feasting away, the hostess usually scans everybody's(only guests though) plates. and she will say "omg! you have nothing on your plate!" *picks up food and offers them*
we are big on making sure our guests are well fed, i don't know why, well i have a guess, but that might be racist...so never mind.
another thing my dad pointed out to me is that we keep offering food until the guest surrenders and eats. in the states i think you would stop offering if your guest said no twice.

I think the ones that sorn wrote is basically all the table manners that appeared in the story. Burping after done eating in china is normal, but in america, it is considered weird. In America, they ask a person to get the food that they want. In China, if they want a food, they just go across the table to get the food.

I think that is basically all. This was on the story and Sergey's group has presented to our class about how they eat. They acted out. America- Eat with separate fork and spoon to get the food on other dish. Also if the food is far away from him/her, than they ask the person near to pass it to them. China - They don't use separate fork or spoon to get some food on other dish. Also when they try to get the food far away from them, they lean against the table to get them.
I think Chinese culture and Korean's culture is pretty much similar. Like Koreans do that too when they eat.

I think mayn Europeans country have the same table manners as Americans or like in fish cheeks. Lot of Asian countries like korea, china, etc have similar table manners. Reaching for the dishes instead of asking and using your own spoon for everything.

American table manner: People use separate spoons and forks to get food; place them on your plate. If the food is placed far away, ask someone nearby to pass it.
Chinese table manner: People use individual spoons and chopsticks to get food. If the food is placed far away, stretch your arm and get it.
I analyzed it and I thought that American maintains neatness and Chinese focuses on eating quickly.

Westeners' table manner is using a spoon to eat. But easteners' table manner is using chopsticks to eat. When they use a spoon, just choosing. I think.

Well Americans usually have a huge share of food shared to each other, separated to each of their shared amount. While the Chinese table manner is that one would just grab what they want from the dishes and eat
