After I had read the book, Escape from Camp 14, I felt like I have to do something. I have to take some sort of actions to help these people who are still living in these horrible camps.
For me as a student I think that what I can do is to tell the story of Shin's life to the people who I know so that they can understand about what is actually going on in North Korea. I actually told this story to my mom and she told it to my dad. They were quite shocked because they didn't know how a 21st century human could do such horrible things like that.
How about you guys? As a student what do you guys think you can do to help these people who are still living in these camps?

I think, we are only students, so we can't do anything that really big, and directly helpful to the North Koreans. So I think the only way that can help North Koreans is spread the idea to many people. you can just post the story or make a web site for this. Or you can just post or make a page in facebook/twitters, and spread it to everyone in the world. So we can make many other people to get some interest to the North Koreans

I really feel bad for them, and I wish I could do something aout it. but it's in North Korea, I don't want to go in there, I don't think that there is any way for us to help them, because it will only make things worse, especially now, with North Korea threatening the south and the US. But I hope these camps will be destroyed, and all these innocent people could get out of here

Since we are just students, what we can really do are limited~~ As mentioned in the book, even published stories about Shin's life weren't really popular. South Koreans can't really connect and understand such experience, since they live in such different environment~ What we can do is probably just wish for the best~~ and hope north korea will end their unfair practices~~

I agree with you sorn. I think as students, our power is somewhat limited. But if we tell Shin's story as well as those of other refugees from North Korea, then we can raise awareness within our community. We can start with our own school even. I think it would be a good thing to discuss in Peace Club.

I agree with you, i would also try to spread the word about North Korea and what they do in it, as a student thats the best and most effective thing that we can do. Maybe making a youtube video and spread it globally, just talk to people and the story will spread by itself quickly.

first of all, i think we should know about north korea well. Then, we should tell north korean people who live in there about what is going on in their country. we have to tell that. because they don't have any informations. they cant get information from outside. they were taught like "our country is great. Be proud of your country. Respect for the top" by the government when they were little, or still they become adult. children are so honest so they just believe what the teacher said. so they think it is natural thing. sometime people from north korea escaped. why he could escape because he knew that north korea is strange. he could get the info from outside then he could know about his country. otherwise, people who dont know about own country always think we are in great country as we can do launching missiles yet why we are alway hungry? why we cant get enough food. why are they ask such a question? because they dont know about outside. so i think we should know about north korea well then tell them about their country.

I don't think there's a good way to solve whatever is happening within the camp. It's a sad reality since access to North Korea is limited in many ways, especially due to political reasons. I don't think charity and monetary aid are that helpful for the prisoners since North Korea would basically take them for the good of their country and use all of them on military. It's true that increasing awareness is all we can do.
