we read self reliance. and i chose "imitation is suicide" if a person imitated the others opinion instead of telling his own opinion,i think it means he killed own opinion. because he didnt tell anyone and he will never tell his opinion. so when i read this i thought this.

I think that the meaning of that quote is that, if you imitate someone that is like killing yourself because you are not following your own instinct and you are acting as a follower. You are not making your own decisions that following what other people thinks is write not what you really think is right or wrong.

Cool, that's a good quote. If you interpret the quote in a deep way, as you said, it's basically killing yourself if you imitate other people. It's like losing your identity and your true value as the society influences you. It's a bit extreme but if you think about it, it seems to be true. Even though I agree with the quote, I just want to point out that imitating other isn't necessarily bad. I think following and imitating good traits of others isn't totally a bad thing because you can improve yourself by being aware of them. You can adapt those traits in your life and it might make you a better person. Who knows.

Yeah, so when you try to imitate another person's style, opinions, appearance, manner, etc. You're replacing the traits that make you, you, with that other person's traits and behavior. And where do those traits go? They disappear. And they're pretty much dead. But those traits are part of you. So you end up killing yourself, or part of yourself because you envy other people.

I think that's a good quote too. If individualism was not appreciated, everyone would be the same. Imitation causes people to lose their creativity. Besides, the world will be boring too if everyone acted the same way, wore same clothes and talk about same thing.

Well, true that. I think if you don't talk about your own opinion and just follow others, it's just same as a doll, not a human. Imitation doesn't always mean bad thing, it can interpreted as following fashion, and knows well about the fashion. But following everything from the popular people is just same as copying, just like the situation, if you like the idea and support it, it's fine, but if you don't like it and still following, it's just same as doll what i just mentioned before
