I had this idea about what if a person's desire is to be what the crowd wants? What if being true to yourself actually is what pleases the majority? For example like how ms boyd pointed out bach and my adidas track tops. These days its so easy to see someone have one of these on the streets. So having one must be following the majority. Or is it? For me, i didn't buy it because everyone else is wearing it but because i actually found the design quite cool and since it was a boston limited edition, which i found even cooler. so personally, i think that i bought this for my own personal want but for other people, this may seem as if i just followed what others do, buying adidas track tops. so for this situation, can you really say that my action of buying a track top that i honestly liked that just happens to be the popular thing in the majority is against transcendentalism? Do you agree? and did you have any experiences when you did something for yourself but to others it seemed like you just went along with the crowd?

I agree with you and Ms.Boyd regarding transcendentalism. I believe that people can still follow the majority even though their choices were completely out of their true instinct. For example, I personally like playing basketball and it's my favorite sports. Looking back at myself, I actually didn't care whether people around me liked basketball or not because I was doing what I like, not what other people like. Therefore, there was no way I was conforming with the society. However, I still believe that your decision and choices can be affected by your society and medias. I've never known such thing as NBA but I got to know teams within the association and cool players. After that, I started to rely more on basketball since they caused me to have a desire to improve myself and be better. My friends were a strong influence to my life in general as well. So I think that being true to yourself (not being affected by the majority) is actually hard but still be possible.

Okay, so this is me talking about my K-pop life again -.- Well what happened to me was that whenever I dress, change my hair color, piece my ears, do my makeup the first thing people would say to me is that "oh, so korean. So K-pop, did the company influenced you to do this." Well, the TRUTH IS THIS IS MY STYLE AND THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO DO. I am not copying anyone or anything. This is from my own interest but people just ASSUME that what I do is my attempt to copy K-pop and to be like one of those K-pop people. I am trying to be a transcendentalist but because of the society and human's judgmental ideas, people likes to assume stuff by looking at the outside.

I believe that this is transcendentalism in a way. There is obviously what a person likes or dislikes or what he/she desires. If that desire matches with the majority of the people then in a way it can be transcendentalism. But in a way it might NOT be transcendentalism. I thought transcendentalism was to be or do something that the majority does not do. So i guess liking the Adidas tops or shoes is normal, not transcendentalism.

Look people transcendentalism is not a game where you choose your username as a transcendentalist and continue with it... transcendentalism is all about following your own instinct. For example I have long hair and beard and stuff the way I dress up and so on its the way I am comfortable in my life and there is nothing wrong with it.. I have had moments when people commented about how I look right on my face and that really hurts but still I do what I do because I feel like it and there is nothing wrong with it. I do wanna request you guys don't judge people based on there looks because, a person is way more than how he/she dresses up please... let it be and let them be free... and its up to u what do u consider me as transcendentalist or not... Thank you..

I always go along with what everyone else is wearing, I want the same things as others, because everyone else is wearing them, that's what the media is doing to us.

I don't know whether that is transcendentalism because if you desire to do what others do then you are following others so I think that it is just seeming that you are being transcendentalist when actually you are not.

well in transcendentalism you do what your instincts tells you to do, you dont follow the majority, you just do what you feel.
