Hi guys! I have a question that i want to ask u guys hehe do you guys think your environment affects yourself in being optimistic or pessimistic?
I think it does. Because i am easily fooled, i believe what my friends or the people around me say. So, depending on whether they are optimistic or pessimistic about it, i change too. I think they are right so i follow their opinion. I try to be optimistic, but when im with pessimistic friends, i become all negative. In the other hand, if im negative, then i become positive and optimistic if my friends are.
So, how about you guys??

In the fact, I'm really hard to study and life in Korea. I'm not good at English and Korea. However, because in this environment I know I have to be optimism, if I'm not, who can help me? So I think environment is importment.

I think it does because optimism level is different in many areas. For example, people are optimistic in the most successful area but not in poor area (this is just an example, which means that wealth is not the criterion of optimism). Besides, I also think that family and friends affect optimism because their actions (whether they are optimistic or pessimistic) can change our personality into their personality (refer to Esther¡¯s example).

Yes. It happened to me when I was 6 years old and was in U.S. I didn't know any acquaintances, and I wasn't fluent in English. As a result, I was very pessimistic about my school life because I believed I was performing poorly. But when I came back to Korea, some things were very familiar to me, and I became much more optimistic since I knew a lot more about Korean culture, language, and other things. It seems that when we have more confidence about something, we are likely to be more optimistic.

Oh my god hahaha I know right, Ruchira?? We make others optimistic but we become pessimistic! We are like hypocrite hehehe. Anyway, I know what you mean Esther, but I quite disagree with your idea. Recently, for my optimism presentation, I had to research about effect and cause of optimism. Well, the effect was quite evident, like less stress level, academically successful and more. But the cause, it was quite ambiguous. But I found out that according to study, individual aspects such as age, gender, income level, family don't really affect our optimism. Also, national factors like GDP and standard of living don't affect optimism as well. This means that optimism is totally up to us. If we think positively even though we are in very bad situation, you are an optimist. However, even though you are from rich family and you are never satisfied with what you have will make you pessimistic. So I believe being optimism is totally up to our mind. Well, I am from happy happy family and I am optimistic, so maybe I am an exception...

I completely agree with you. I think our surroundings are one of the biggest things that prevents us from being a optimist. Not only that, but I've seen people say that something is very negative after hearing everyone else's opinions. haha and Ruchira's reply is really funny and very agreeable.

Well I think it depends in a way. If you are person like that don't really care about your environment and just do what ever you want to do environment won't effect you much.
But if you are ordinary person that want to socialize with others then yes environment will affect either you are optimistic or pessimistic especially if people around you liked optimistic guys you try to be that optimistic guy or girl.

I agree with Ruchira too. While I was working on this project, I was so stressed that I was thinking about all sorts of bad outcome.

umm kind of yes, kind of no? I think it can affect in some way, but it can't be the main reason to be pessimistic or optimistic. It's on your mind, for example even if the guys are in same jail, some guys would be optimism and some guys would be optimism. Even if the environment is really bad, you can change yourself. (It's not easy to change but anyway)

I try not to be, but I'd have to say I am influenced by the people around me. When I see my friends be pessimistic about something, I start to feel pessimistic about it too. I keep on seeing the down sides of a thing, not the good sides so I'm distracting from trying to think optimistically. I bet it would have worked the other way around if the people around me were to be more optimistic though. That'll be nice

Bilal, Ony, and I tried to convey this point during the assembly. I believe that environment can surely affect you in either a positive or negative way. Having optimistic friends is very beneficial. The first thing that comes to my mind is that they make you comfortable. They help you to focus on the positive sides of the story and give you important advice. I personally try to stay away from a pessimistic person because there are a lot of things that I disagree with what he or she thinks, but I just can't say them against the person. So be optimistic yourself so that you can affect others as well!

The environment really does effect your emotions and your behaviors especially the people who you usually hang out with. People who are always optimistic will give positive energy that even people around them can feel it. Just like if you hang out with kids that does bad behaviors, there is a high chance that you will get influenced by them too. Positive friends will lead you to good things, encourage you to do good acts, and make you feel very comfortable.
