Definitely, externalities are always effecting people to be optimistic and pessimistic. For example, people always turn in to a good mood if something good happens to them. Vise versa, if something turns to the worse, depending on how bad the situation is people can turn pessimistic.

I think the environment where you live in or where you were brought up is one of the biggest things that influence us to be either pessimistic or optimistic. For example if your family always showed you the good things in bad situations then you will probably pick up the thoughts of an optimist. But if they always pressured you or discourages you if you do bad then you will probably have a pessimistic thought.

I definitely think that a person can change a lot depending on the environment. Didn't people do experiments about this? I'm pretty sure that I've heard of something like this. One's personality can change a lot depending on what kind of environment the one is surrounded by. I mean.. isn't it pretty obvious that it has a huge impact on people? If you were locked up in some kind of weird place you'd go nuts. just like that it affects a lot..

When good things happen to me, I get really upbeat about the future and happy and start making plans(that I most likely will never get along to doing). And when bad things happen to me I get really depressed and my motivation is drained to 0% and I feel that my existence will bring about no benefit to the people around me and I'll just lie on my bed and live the rest of my life on my parents' money.
So basically I'm a teenager. And that's not a really good example of optimism.

I think that the environment really affects a person. If you have a better environment, you do a better job. However, if you have a bad environment, you don't do so well. For example, if you have good friends and family, if you are going through hard times, they would encourage you that you can do it. In contrast, if you have bad friends and family, they would not care and you would start not caring about the things that you're going through with (test, projects).

for me, it depends. sometimes yes, sometimes not. but mostly yes. probably. umm... honestly i just wanna blame the environment for my fault or something thou... but anyway, when i feel so bad with no reason, i really try to be optimistic and think good way. but i always give up.
