Influences on Kurt Vonnegut’s writings www.h2g2.com/approved_entry/A3724823Kurt Vonnegut was an American writer that had a high influence on the American literature. Unlike his brother who became a chemist, Kurt entered the army during WW2, which had massive destructions that provided materials for the novel “Slaughterhouse 5”. After he joined the army, his mother committed suicide, so he often mention about suicides in his stories. www.vonnegutlibrary.org/about/After Kurt moved to New York City alone during the 70s, one of his sons suffered from bipolar disorder but recovered. He was separated from his family and wife due to their divorce that later on turned into part of his literature. (Breakfast of Champion and Slapstick) www.biography.com/people/kurt-vonnegut-9520329 Kurt was held as a prisoner at the slaughterhouse in Europe during World War 2. The slaughterhouse was deep enough to protect Kurt and other American prisoners from the American and English city bombing. After his experience at war, he kept the memory and turned it into a novel. LOL i didn't know that we were supposed to post this here so i printed it out

1. Biography.com www.biography.com/peoplr/kurt-vonnegut-9520329From 1940-1942, Kurt Vonnegut enlisted the US Army. He also served in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was captured and became a prisoner of war and was mentally effected by the devastated event of the firebombing in Dresen, Germany. Even though he was not effected by it, but he was devastated by the damaged it caused to the community. This website is good for writing essays because other websites URL are given and the website is very reliable. It consist if pictures and detailed biography of Kurt Vonnegut which are all correct (other website also has the same basic informations) 2. Uni.illinois.edu Uni.illinois.edu/~slinder/model.htm His experience fighting in the world war 2 really terrify him that turned him into a anti-war person. His mother also committed suicide due to his alcoholic father. He used to work as a news reporter earlier in his life for the City News Bureau of Chicago. He also stated that his role as a reporter really did influences his writing style for many of his books and stories. His understanding of science and environment (scientific facts) were influenced from his brother's work which was a atmospheric scientist. This website has a wide range of information. The information are written with many details. It also focusses on each stories that he also written and discussed it in details. I would definitely use for a project or writing an essay. 3. Angelfire.com www.angelfire.com/planet/harrisonnvonnegut/The reason why h e wrote many science fictions due to the influences from his job at General Electric which we can see his knowledge from his novel, Slaughterhouse-Five and Breakfast of Champions. He likes to write dark horror due to his mother's death on Mother's day, ever since he had to suffer from this dark memory and he was really scared of women. He was a anti-authoritarianism person which was reflected in all of his novels. He also had mental problems himself. I wouldn't use this website for a essay or project because the website doesn't look reliable. The website name also doesn't look like it was created by a reliable authority, institution, or author.

www.social-europe.eu/2011/03/equality-and-the-good-society/This website, as you can see from the title, basically talks about equality and the good society. The reason why I chose this website is because, the story “Harrison Bergeron” is basically talking about equality and the website above is related to the story by talking about “equality.” www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-Nz22DXMEkPeople with some kind of disability (physical handicap) are always being judged, and the people might think that it is unfair to have some kind of handicap whereas most people are just normal. After visiting the website, if I was the author, I would probably ask myself, “What if people that are not fair (not equal) wears handicap?” That kind of question influenced the author to write the story. www.lawofthefuture.org/blog/After two guesses above, when the author saw this website, he might have wondered the laws in the future and ended up with writing a story about the law that makes unequal people wearing a handicap. That could have influenced him to write this story. Also, if he didn’t like the laws at his time, and he saw this website, he might have thought of making his own laws.
